All I want for Christmas

I am hoping that over this wonderful winter break that I don't loose my beginner skills of dental hygiene! I will be all by myself with a patient and a new chartless computer system! Yikes! I am a little scared that my time management may be a issue this coming spring semester. It should be interesting how this all will work out. I am going to enjoy my break tremendously! However I will be trying to learn axium and somehow keep sharp on my clinical skills. I may just ask Santa for the magical skills of a seasoned Hygienist! When I come back I will WOW everyone with my new loupes and my crazy skills!

  2. I just wrote an entry that sounds a lot like this. I'm so scared to come back after break and attempt to see my patient by myself. And then with the paperless system being implemented, I think I'm going to be a wreck. Your Christmas present from Santa sounds amazing - I may just ask for the same thing! I know we will be great eventually, it's just the getting there part that scares me! I hope you have a great break and enjoy spending time with your babies!

  3. I have a feeling that we are all going to have some form of temporary memory loss when we sit down with our first patient next semester. Do not worry we are all in the same boat, but maybe it will be like riding a bike and we will eventually remember what we learned fall semester, at least I hope.

  4. Hi! Hope you enjoy your winter break after our last two final is over with. I truly think you will be fine and that you won't forget what you learn. Once your in clinic in January your knowledge and clinical skills will come rushing back once your in the chair working on your patient. Most people worry about time management but I think everyone will do fine. I do agree axium will be interesting when we use it in January. It is going to be confusing the first week but will get through it and become a pro at axium.

  5. Having read all the comments, I can see that we are all on the same page with coming back next semester. It seems like just when we finally get the hang of somethingn like seeing patients with charts and partners they go and change it up with axium and flying solo with our patients. I feel like the charting on our own is going to be something that we don't realize how hard it is to do by ourselves until we actually have to do it all. Having said that im sure there will be days that certain people don't have patients and we can give eachother a hand witht some of the paperwork!

  6. Yes! I think we all need to send Santa some treats and maybe he will deliver. I'm pretty nervous about what next year in clinic will bring...but trying to remain calm. Axium sounds like a massive headache. Charting is definitely going to be a challenge as well I feel. I may possibly get my loupes too. I was just hoping to wait and get more comfortable with patient care. I feel like I can't see very well when probing with just my regular reading glasses. As for now, I'm just looking forward to enjoying my break, not waking up at 5am to make it to school by 8am nearly everyday is going to be a great gift in itself. I hope you and the rest of the grapes have a great break! Can't wait to see you with your amazing skills and loupes in January.
